KANGOL
KANGOL was founded in 1938 by Jacques Spreiregen in Cleator, Cumbria, UK.The company and brand name KANGOL is derived from the materials used in hats: "K" from knitting, "ANG" from angora, and "OL" from wool.
Its history began with the production of military berets and hats for the royal family.
KANGOL also entered the fashion industry, where luxurious women's hats were particularly popular, leading to increased recognition as a high-fashion item. In the 1960s, the brand collaborated with popular designers like Mary Quant and Pierre Cardin, and its hats adorned the heads of The Beatles, Arnold Palmer, and later, Princess Diana.
In the 1980s, as hip-hop culture emerged from New York, rappers and graffiti artists began wearing KANGOL hats, leading to a huge surge in popularity.
This led to the creation of the now iconic "Kangaroo mark" in New York in 1983.
In 1992, KANGOL launched non-hat fashion items in Japan, pioneering their global expansion.
This had a significant impact on the street scene at the time, and the brand became known as a street casual brand.
Subsequently, it gained popularity among many celebrities and became a globally recognized brand.
Blending British tradition with contemporary culture, KANGOL continues to evolve.
