KANGOL
KANGOL was established in 1938 by Jacques Spreiregen in Cleator, Cumbria, UK.The company and brand name, KANGOL, is derived from the names of materials used in hats: "K" from KNITTING, "ANG" from ANGORA, and "OL" from WOOL.
Its history began with the manufacture of military berets and hats for the royal family.
The brand also entered the fashion industry, with luxury women's hats being particularly popular at the time, leading to increased recognition as a high-fashion item. In the 1960s, KANGOL collaborated with popular designers such as Mary Quant and Pierre Cardin, and its hats adorned the heads of The Beatles, Arnold Palmer, and later, Princess Diana.
In the 1980s, the emergence of hip-hop culture in New York saw rappers and graffiti artists begin wearing KANGOL hats, leading to a massive surge in popularity.
This led to the creation of the "Kangaroo mark," now an iconic symbol of the brand, in New York in 1983.
In 1992, KANGOL launched non-hat fashion items in Japan, pioneering the global expansion of its product range.
This had a significant impact on the street scene at the time, establishing KANGOL as a renowned street casual brand.
Since then, it has gained popularity among many celebrities, becoming a globally recognized brand.
With a fusion of British tradition and contemporary culture, KANGOL continues to evolve.
