KANGOL
KANGOL was founded in 1938 by Jacques Spreiregen in Cleator, Cumbria, UK.The name KANGOL, which is both the company and brand name, is derived from the materials used in its hats: the "K" from KNITTING, "ANG" from ANGORA, and "OL" from WOOL.
The brand began by manufacturing military berets and hats for the Royal Family.
It then expanded into the fashion industry, where its high-end women's hats became particularly popular, gaining recognition as a high-fashion item. In the 1960s, Kangol collaborated with popular designers like Mary Quant and Pierre Cardin, and its hats graced the heads of The Beatles, Arnold Palmer, and later, Princess Diana.
In the 1980s, as hip-hop culture emerged from New York, the originators of rap and graffiti began wearing Kangol hats, leading to a massive surge in popularity.
It was at this time, in 1983 in New York, that the "Kangaroo mark," now an iconic symbol of the brand, was created.
In 1992, Kangol launched fashion items other than hats, with Japan being the first country to offer them.
This had a huge impact on the street scene of the time, and Kangol became known as a street casual brand.
Since then, it has gained popularity among many celebrities and has become a globally recognized brand.
Kangol continues to evolve, blending British tradition with contemporary culture.
